Kayla L. WAllace
My name is Kayla Wallace, and I am a journalist, photographer, graphic designer, radio show host, event and music curator, music journalist, audio mixing and recording enthusiast. I am a Howard senior journalism major and biology minor from Fredericksburg VA.
My passion for music has driven me to learn every side of the industry—both creative and strategic. From visuals, website creation, and audio production to industry research and artist discovery, I’ve built a well-rounded skill set. I’m highly proficient in Adobe and Excel products and understand how to create for and navigate all social media platforms, including niche spaces like Pigeons & Planes, Untitled, and Oreenter for PR.
My background in music research has evolved into music journalism and event curation, allowing me to highlight rising artists and create platforms for new voices. During my marketing internship at Universal Music Group, I gained hands-on experience while reinforcing my love for creativity. Whether capturing moments at concerts, designing decks, or curating events, I’ve realized that creativity is at the core of everything I do.
As a student studying journalism with a broadcasting concentration, my education has helped me become a more well-rounded journalist. It has provided valuable hands-on experience with gear and technology, deepened my understanding of all forms of media, and improved my skills in on-camera interviews, documentaries, and photography. Additionally, it has enhanced my speaking abilities and taught me how to work efficiently on demand.
I believe that moving with purpose, good intentions, and optimism turns challenges into opportunities. I thrive in collaborative environments where I can blend my creative and strategic skills to bring fresh ideas to the table. With a passion for discovering new artists and an ever-growing skill set, I’m excited to contribute to the future of music and media.
“Always move with genuine intention. When we stop trying to frame our actions or words in a way that looks virtuous or performative, we can reveal more authentic, raw, and genuine stories or answers.”
